Will a Bidet Attachment Fit My Toilet?

Frank from the hardware store down the road called me last month before he ever placed an order, wanting to know straight up whether a bidet attachment fit was even possible for his toilet before he spent a dime. That question comes up more than almost any other in my shop. It is a good one. Nobody wants a box showing up that does not fit the toilet they already own. So let me walk you through exactly how to check, the same way I would if you called me directly.

The First Question: One-Piece or Two-Piece Toilet

Before anything else, figure out whether you have a one-piece or two-piece toilet. A two-piece toilet has a separate tank bolted to the bowl. A one-piece toilet is molded as a single smooth unit with no seam between the tank and the bowl.

Two-piece toilets are the easiest case. Nearly every bidet attachment fit my toilet question I get about two-piece models ends the same way: yes, it will work. One-piece toilets need a closer look, since some have a curved 'French curve' shape where the tank meets the bowl, and that curve can block a proper seal.

How to Measure for a Bidet Attachment Fit

Grab a tape measure and check three simple spots. First, measure the distance between the centers of your seat's bolt holes. Most toilets fall between five and seven and a half inches, which fits nearly every attachment we sell.

Second, measure from the bolt holes to the front edge of the tank. You want at least an inch and a half of flat, level space there. Third, check whether your bowl is round or elongated by measuring from the bolt holes to the front of the bowl. Round bowls usually run sixteen to seventeen and a half inches. Elongated bowls run eighteen inches or more.

What Stops a Bidet Attachment From Fitting

Three things cause most fitment problems: a sloped French curve tank, bolt holes spaced wider or narrower than standard, and wall-mounted toilets with no visible tank at all. If your toilet has any of these, an attachment may still work with an adapter, but it is worth checking with us first.

Outside of those exceptions, a bidet attachment fit is rarely the dealbreaker people fear. Most homes, apartments, and rentals have standard two-piece toilets built for exactly this kind of upgrade.
